Plainfield Township Planning and Parks and Recreation Commission
Regular meeting
June 11, 2025

  1. Called to order by Olmstead at 6:30p.m.
  2. Pledge of allegiance was said by all present.
  3. Roll Call:
    a. Present: Houthoofd,McDonell, Morel, Toth, , Heal
    b. Absent: Olmstead,Johnson,
  4. Guest: Patrick Ready, Zoning Administrator; NEMCOG representative, Phil Russo
  5. Approval of Agenda:
    a. Motion by Houthoofd andseconded by TothMotion carried byvoice, all ayes.
  6. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Toth, seconded by Healto approve theMay 14, 2025minutes. Motion carried by voice, all ayes.
  7. Township board report: Pickle ball courts will be resurfaced and Fire Dept has new equipment. Budget was approved and discussion about Library and Historical Museum move.

  10. New Business:
    a. Plan review for 3547 Darton Road Storage Facility. Phil asked for live trees for fence on the north side, lights not pointing at neighbors. No electricity at this site. In the future would like to know about outdoor storage. Motion: Houthoofd for 20 x 80 building for inside storage. support by Heal. Motion carried all ayes.
    b. Yellow box fireworks. Short-term open-air sales at Roger’s parking lot where U-Haul distribution is. Motion: to approve the short-term open-air sales as approved by Ordinance Administratorfor verification:McDonell with support by Heal. Motion carried all ayes.
    c. Park discussion: repairs to resurfacing and painting for Pickleball courts where tennis court is. $30,000. Needs new fencing and gates. Walkway to back of fire hall, adding a culvert to move water. Will be completed in August.
    d. New play equipment, 7 ft center height. Large super dome climber. Look into an old tractor tire. Balance beam or other climbing apparatus.
    e. Pavillion is up and Saturday Market is asking for sign. Porta potty. New wire trash cans at Loon, Long boat launch and Londo. Will be bolted on t-post.
    f. Long Lake Boat Launch- requested DNR to expand the exit. Dead tree removal will allow the drive to be started. Culvert will be needed to secure the safety of the bathroom from the dead trees.
    g. Londo Lake: need to put in a fence to secure the lot lines.
  11. Old Business:
    a. Master Plan: FYI Housing overview: part of grant application, raw data that is available from 2023 –need goals to work on concerns. How to zone ourselves out of this problem oflack of low income housing without upsetting the tax base. Breaking homes into 2 apartments, mother-in-law suites and reusing other properties. How can we close this gap. How to bring income up. PILT; Hale Villa was built using this program. Need small housing/ mobile homes. Need support for apartment complexes and multi family units. Affordableland and all the necessities. We can offer tax assistance and support in grant writing. July discussion and August to adopt. Where allow and account in zoning and then place in master plan. Need to be able to move forward in discussions to make community better.
    b. Park Tour: will plan in July
  12. General Discussion and Public Comments: computers for board members. What to do with them and what on them?Write out the business case. Where will money come from and what computer programs we need?What is left on the grant?
