The assessing officer is responsible for assessing property within the township at fifty percent of its true cash value and preparing an assessment roll covering all the taxable real and personal property.  The valuations are determined as of December 31st of the preceding year.  The assessment roll is delivered to the Board of Review on or before the Tuesday following the first Monday in March.  The Assessor notifies the property owners of their changes in assessment and taxable value also publishing the dates and times that they may appeal to the March Board of Review.  The March Board of Review then meets with the public to discuss the valuations and make any necessary corrections or changes.  The March Board of Review must complete its review by the first Monday in April.
The assessing officer also meets with the July and December Boards of Review to correct errors on tax bills and make Principle Residence Exemption adjustments.
The assessing officer in Plainfield Township is also responsible for maintaining the mailing addresses, legal descriptions, property descriptions, special assessments, and exemptions for township tax payers.
