The Supervisor is frequently the first official contacted about any township business or complaint and is the township spokesperson. The image of the township and its ability to satisfy the needs of its citizens and property owners rests largely on the Supervisor’s knowledge of township government and how it can accomplish these purposes legally, fairly and with the least amount of dissension and friction as possible.
The Supervisor chairs all Township Board meetings and transacts all legal business for the Township . They prepare the agenda and gather the information that needs to go before the board for approval.
They also supervise the Assessing, Building, Waste Site, Administrative Assistant and Public Works/Maintenance Departments as well as all public improvements.
One of the crucial responsibilities of the Supervisor is to prepare and administer the annual budget, monitor the financial condition of the Township and ensure that the Township is operating in an efficient manner.
The Supervisor also monitor’s the condition of all township roads and works with the county road commission to develop both long and short term plans for their maintenance and upgrade.
The control of blight in a community is always a difficult task which falls to the Supervisor. Balancing a property owners’ right to use their property as they wish in a democracy, against the surrounding property owners’ right to not have the bad condition of a neighbor’s property affect their property values is difficult in all situations. We are a complaint driven department. We do not travel the roads looking for blight. We act on those complaints that are given to us, and they can be anonymous. Some complaints we cannot act on. Depending on the condition of the blighted location we may only be able to get the grass cut. As long as the structure is not a dangerous building we cannot make the owner paint it or clean the windows or wash the walls/roof/patio. What one person may consider blight may not reach the level necessary to force a clean-up. We all have an interest in keeping our Community clean so if a neighbor has difficulty with some clean-up that may require help or a vehicle to haul with, lend a hand.
