SO much has happened since last we spoke. My fault at missing last month’s deadline, I’m trying to clear some issues to avoid this in the future. First, I want to thank the volunteers and the Friends of the Library for the wonderful open house that they had on October 20th. It was very well attended with over 175 residents and bibliophiles(book lovers). This was the culmination of the library move that we started last fall. So Cheryl has her new digs at Eagle Pointe and invites you to stop by any day Monday through Friday from 9-4 and check out the facility and maybe even a book or two. Maybe next year we can look at starting a Library News Page in the WH to keep everyone up to speed on Library programs and activities. Since we are in the congratulating mode, many thanks to the individuals that volunteered at the E-Waste Collection event that we held in the Eagle Pointe parking lot on the 10th of October. The event allowed you to dispose of any electronic devices including tv’s, monitors, computers, game consoles, cell phones, office equipment and batteries. We had over 120 participants over the 4 hour period and collected more than 7,810 lbs of E-Waste that was taken to our contracted hauler’s reclamation facility in Lansing. This event was brought to us by the Iosco County Recycling Advisory Board and made possible through the Rural Electronics Recycling Grant from EGLE and the Iosco County Recycling Millage. Also a bit of housekeeping for getting ready to go into the winter months and coming off an election cycle, starting on November 9 and continuing through the month we will be removing any temporary signs from road corners or ditch lines. This includes election signs, for sale signs, business signs, ad signs, etc. So if you have any of these out around the township please pick them up before we start this process. We are not traveling out just to remove the signs but as we travel around the community for business, we will remove them. Realtor signs will be held at the township until January for pickup at anytime.
As you know, if you traveled through the downtown intersection, the MDOT traffic light project has hit a snag. Apparently, the posts and arms for the light mounts were not approved for order until mid September and they have a 4 to 6 month lead time. So, MDOT will not be able to complete the installation until then which could be February or March. Until then some of the site such as the Shell and Scofield corners will not be finished. They plan to finish the Marathon and Gazebo corners by the end of the year. That was the latest plan that I was told earlier this week.
Another issue in the news recently has come across my desk and I want to try and make some sense out of what we are seeing and hearing. AI is a hot button issue. Whether we want it or not, we have been using it since it’s infancy as search engines on the internet. What has evolved from the technology and information gathering over the past three decades has resulted in AI. We had to realize that turning our day to day items over to Siri or Alexa would result in this type of an evolution. However, remember how it got here. Through our own creation and programming(telling it what to do) we have generated these bots. They produce what we ask of them based on what we told them. Therefore, if our knowledge or experience on an issue is not fully developed, their response may not be fully developed or be dependable. I say this because twice in the last month I have had residents in my office with documents, one was a deed, created by AI, that they swore were accurate that were both incorrect. Remember they can only work with what they are given, so your question may be incomplete or may not be quite what you are looking for. Trust a person that is knowledgeable on the topic to verify your AI info.
Consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA. Whatever your need we probably have some form of activity to assist you. So stop in and see Roma about a membership. We would love to see you. When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays and Thursdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum. They have great displays of our community throughout history and how our residents lived long ago. The members do a great job preserving and showcasing our heritage. As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me. I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
