April 15, 2026

Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Lewis followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Present: Bassi, Kocher, Lewis, Morel and Reilly 9 Guests

Approval of Agenda: Motion by Bassi supported by Reilly to approve the Agenda as presented.

Public Comments: none

Board Comments: Lewis commented that the Survey is out for Child Care Needs Assessment. He also stated that The State Tax Commission has picked us for 2026 Assessment Roll Audit. Lewis is meeting with School on Thursday along with the surveyor for the path.

Approval of Minutes: Motion by Lewis supported by Reilly to approve Minutes from March 18^th, 2026 Regular Meeting with the following changes: The ZBA and BOR wage increase was to be retroactive back to March 1^st, 2026. All ayes. Motion carried.

Financial Report: Presented by Bassi.

Budget Report: Presented by Lewis. He will bring final Budget Adjustments to the board in May.

Presentation of Bills: Motion by Morel supported by Kocher to pay the bills as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes: Bassi, Kocher, Lewis, Morel and Reilly. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Library/Historical Move: Looking at June for move. The fibers will be going in on June 19^th.

Fudiciary on the gazebo sculpture donations: Roma agreed to take in donations for the Garden Club for the Eagle Sculpture.

Waste Site ISP Changeover/Camera Changeout: We have changed our internet system from Bright Speed to Harrington Solutions. Cameras are ordered to replace old ones.

Downtown Tree Removal: Select trees have been removed and some have been trimmed. Lewis would like one more tree removed by Allan Bakers seeing it is heaving the sidewalk. Board agrees.

Sidewalk Work Downtown: Hunt Brothers will be doing the cement work when the Stop lights are changed out. We will hopefully get them to do some sidewalk repair and replacement for the township too while they are doing that for the State.

Fire Millage and MFR Millage Language Renewal for August Election: Motion by Bassi supported by Kocher to approve the Fire and MFR Millage Language for the August Ballot. (See attached.)

Roll call vote: Ayes: Bassi, Kocher, Lewis, Morel and Reilly. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Parade Resolution for 2026: Motion by Reilly supported by Bassi to approve the 2026 Parade Resolution. Roll call vote: Ayes: Bassi, Kocher, Lewis, Morel and Reilly. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Fireworks approval: Tabled til May Meeting. Reilly wants board to consider raising the Firework Contract from 11,000.00 to15,000.00 for a little bit longer show.

Final Reading of Ordinance 3: Motion by Reilly supported by Lewis to approve the final reading of Ordinance 3-DTE Franchise Agreement. Roll call vote: Ayes: Bassi, Kocher, Lewis, Morel and Reilly. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Road Work Approval: Tabled til May Meeting. Lewis has not heard back from Iosco County Road Commssion.

Historical Commission Board Member approval: Motion by Lewis supported by Bassi to approve the following Board Members for the Historical Commission.

Have security system and safe ready. Starting in house and getting a separate building, will have security bars and door installed. FFL is already approved, 1 June is start date. Motion: by Toth and Supported by Johnson to accept the site plan. Motion carried by voice, all ayes.b. 3195 M-65 Yellow Box Fireworks: same as 2025, Licenses are all. Motion: by Johnson and supported by Toth to accept the site plan. Motion carried by voice, all ayes.c. Long Lake Garage Condominium5057 South Branch Road: By-laws, completed survey, storage inside garage only, no rv, stakes of wood, no trailers, animals or living on property and no wells and septic. Power is already in area but will be expanded to underground going to barns with own meter. Each lot individually owned. Drainage is flowing towards lake; 30 percent go to open space behind lot 1-4. Bassi has done grading for drainage and Reilly put in the roads, raised 24 inches. Each lot will have a culvert and ditch in front for drainage. Exterior lighting, at entrance and eventually down the street and each barn will have lighting. Brandon is building all buildings. One well on property and there is a dry spot on their property -that belongs to Todd and Moe, agreement with them that the well is theirs. No businesses allowed. There is a drain in the center of each building. Only electric heat is allowed. Willie Petershiem is doing the building. Keypad access and gated. Motion: by Johnson and Toth supported, Motion carried by voice, all ayes.11. Old Business:a. Zoning ordinance review: Reviewed the definitions and removed what was not necessary and/or not used throughout the ordinance. 12. General Discussion and Public Comments: Fred Lewis: Parks and Rec: How to use Parks and Rec grant for next year. Plan for Parks and Rec Grant: 5 picnic tables for pavilion $1100 each, finishing pickleball fencing, set of swing sets. Any input? Pathway from the school to Eagle Pointe, we would need easement, survey and deed recorded before do grant request. Other parks around the community. Loon Lake, may extend the trails. Long Lake park extended width of boat launch. Rap work on road throughout the township. Will include the Long Lake park. SUPERVISORS CORNER I hope all is well with you and your families after the spring floods and winter iceing, we have had a very precarious start to 2026. But we have survived and now look forward to spring and all the new growth and the healing of the trees and ground as the waters recede and the new flowers bloom. It all goes on as before with, possibly, some minor changes. We will adapt and proceed as we have to with the changes that result. Fix what got broken and replant what may have been lost. It will all come back, some just a little different than before. It is all about change, whether we want it or not, it will always happen.Speaking of change, we will again be experiencing some of this ourselves. About mid-summer, to the best of my understanding of the project schedule, MDOT will be replacing the stop light downtown. They will be removing the existing lights and installing new poles and cross-arm lights that face each lane. It will take a couple of weeks and will cause disruptions in the downtown area, so be aware and pass this on to others in the community so that they are aware also and can plan accordingly. MDOT will actually be performing this change-out at four others intersections in the county through the summer and early fall.We have met with Spectrum and the district library regarding the move and they are shooting for the middle of June to have their fiber installed and ready to go. We will wait until that work is complete before we start the packing and move operation. We are looking for volunteers to help with the book packing and unpacking. We will move the shelving since we installed it years ago, as well as the desks and hutch. If you are interested in helping please contact our office or call Cheryl at the library. We will contact any volunteers with a proposed date and time as our plans become firmer. The same is the case with the historical museum which will move later in the summer or early in the fall. Depending on the weather and prepping the new location for their move.You may have noticed that we had to remove some trees in the downtown due to sight line problems. The trees had become a viewing obstruction to trucks coming from the east at the intersection and also were a concern with the new stoplight configuration. We plan to add a bench and planter at one location and have the stumps ground at all locations.The garden club has commissioned a sculpture by a local artist for the gazebo area. We hope to have it installed by this summer. They are raising funds themselves for this as they want it to be from the community to the community. You can contact them by calling Bev Mason at 989-305-8823.I want to thank the historical commission for their wonderful program on the Edmund Fitzgerald that was held on April 16. We had over 70 people from all over the state attend the program and the speaker was entertaining as well as informative. They have told me that many people that could not attend have asked for another program from this presenter. They are looking at a possible second program in the near future. Keep checking and we will keep you informed. The historical group has a program scheduled for September 19th at 2 pm here, with Phil Naud on the CCC, their camps and work programs in Iosco County. Please mark your calendars for this date. Phil is a known scholar on the CCC and their roles and impacts in northern Michigan.Consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA. Whatever your need we probably have some form of activity to assist you. So stop in and see Roma about a membership. We would love to see you. When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum. They have great displays of our community throughout history and how our members lived long ago. The members do a great job preserving and showcasing our heritage.
