Minutes of Plainfield Township Planning and Parks and Recreation Commission

Regular meeting August 10, 2022

  1. Called to order by Olmstead at 6:30p.m.
  2. Pledge of allegiance was said by all present.
  3. Roll Call:

a. Present: McDonell, Houthoofd, Alward, Toth, Olmstead, Barclay, Johnson

b. Absent:

c. Note: Patrick Ready, as guest

  1. Approval of Agenda: Motion by Houthoofd, seconded by Alward to approve the agenda. Motion carried by voice, all ayes.
  2. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Toth, seconded byHouthoofdto approve the July 13, 2022 minutes. Motion carried by voice, all ayes.
  3. Township board report: Houthoofd – Locking bathroom at Long Lake due to damage. Loon Lake Fishing platform being rebuilt. Private Roads are considering new bids. Replacing boilers at Eagle Pointe and roof is being patched
  4. ZBA Report: Toth: Torn down shed was allowed to be rebuilt on Franklin. Home on Kokosing is trying to build garage. Approved but need to have permission from the DNR and EGLE. Difficulty setting precedent because of practical necessity vs need and want
  5. New Business:

a. Recommendation: to ask Township Board to put out bids to develop a plan for 8 pickleball courts (4 dedicated and 4 temporary), tennis courts/basketball courts, lavatory, concession stand and pavilion in downtown park area. Pickle ball tournaments are popular and could bring tourist dollars to community.

a. Question asked as to what Ordinance 40 is: Recommendation to ask Township Board to consider Ordinance Enforcement Officer. Look into Blight grants and use to pay salary.

b. Londo pavilion needs stamped plans to move forward due to proximity to the lake and winds

c. Reviewed new State Police facilities

Motion by Alward, second by McDonell to adjourn7: 46 Motion carried by voice, all ayes.
