What a great July 4th!!!! The weather cooperated nicely, the parade was well attended and had lots of community participation(thanks Sue and Roger), the fireworks were again spectacular and all went off without a hitch(and very few gypsy moths…yaaaaayyyyyy). Our next local event will be the Iosco County Fair which starts on Monday July 25th through Saturday July 30th. The exhibits open on Monday with sideshows throughout the day from The Wild World of Animals to the Comedy Farm Magic Review with grandstand shows each night at 7. Daily kids bike raffles, quilt raffles and live music with a talent show on Saturday and Barnyard Olympics on Thursday. The midway rides open daily at 2 starting Tuesday and there will be a BBQ chicken and roast pig dinner courtesy of FFA on Friday and Saturday respectively. So plan to visit and ride some rides, see some animals and have some cotton candy during the week.
Right after the fair comes the August primary election. While you may not care about the primaries because so many are running unopposed in their party you really need to pay attention to this year’s primary because there are many tax proposals on the ballot. Most affecting every taxpayer in the county. In the Township we have two millage renewals on the ballot. One is for the fire department operations and the other is for the MFR – Medical First Responders renewal. Neither is an increase in what you currently pay in taxes for these services. But we are required every four years to allow the voters a choice to renew or not. The choice is yours at the ballot box. But you must vote to be counted. You do not have to cast a vote for everything on a ballot. All spaces do not have to be filled for your vote to count. You can vote for just the items you are comfortable with and leave the others blank. There are many other millage requests on the ballot, mostly at the county level. I suggest that if you plan to vote on these issues that you educate yourself before you get to the booth or when you get your absentee ballot ask for clarifications if you are unsure of the wording.
We received word this week from the Michigan State Police, it is official, they will be locating a detachment post here at the Eagle Point Plaza starting this fall. The official name will be Michigan State Police West Branch Post Hale Detachment. We will be working with them throughout the summer and early fall to get everything together. We welcome this addition to our community adding to the safety and security that we enjoy and look forward to a long and happy future. Many thanks to the MSP personnel that worked so hard to make this happen. They know who they are and so do we, Thanks Again from all of our community.
Our Planning/Parks and Rec Commission have undertaken the responsibility to get our community master plan and our community parks and recreation plan updated, as required by law to maintain current plans. As such one requirement is to seek community input. This will happen two ways. One is starting now with a community survey that we are asking all residents to take and share with other residents. You can find the survey at www.plainfieldtwphalesurvey.com. It consists of 23 questions mainly multiple choice and should take no more that 10 to 15 minutes of your time. We really need your input to ensure the accuracy of the plans and the direction the community wants us to head. Once complete we will gather the survey data and present it at a community open house to hear comments and suggestions before we prepare the final plans for approval early in 2023. You can also get this information on our website www.plainfieldtwpmi.com.
The waste site is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM through 4 PM and Sunday from 9 AM through 2 PM. We are open on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.
