“Dust Control, for those roads normally receiving it is scheduled to begin the week of May 23. It will start with grading by the county followed by dust control application. It usually starts in the north end of the township and proceeds south and east as the week progresses. It is weather dependent.”
“Gypsy Moth spraying is scheduled to begin within the next two weeks as the tree canopy(upper leaves) continues to develop and the eggs hatch, we will start to see activity. The 7 to 10 day window for maximum effectiveness of the application will start within the week, depending on the weather. We plan to start spraying soon thereafter. That may mean during the holiday weekend you could see or hear aircraft buzzing around. They will be using both helicopters and a plane this year. The spray is atomized and will dry before it reaches ground. Also it is a natural, biological material that already exists in the forest, but with our unusually dry springs the last few years, it isn’t abundant enough to keep the pests away. Basically, it is not harmful to anything else except caterpillars that eat the leaves that have been sprayed.”
