Plainfield Township Planning and Parks and Recreation Commission
Regular meeting
March 25, 2026

  1. Called to order by McDonellat 6:30p.m.
  2. Pledge of allegiance was said by all present.
  3. Roll Call:
    a. Present: Toth,Heal,Thayer, McDonell
    b. Absent: Olmstead, Morell, Johnson
  4. Guest: Denise
  5. Approval of Agenda:
    a. Motion by Tothandseconded by HealMotion carried byvoice, all ayes.
  6. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Toth, seconded byMcDonellto approve theFeb 11, 2026minutes. Motion carried by voice, all ayes.
  7. Township board report: none
  8. ZBA Report: Toth:Meeting and their practical difficulty did not meet the requirements. They will redesign their home.
  9. Community comments or questions:none
  10. New Business:
    a. Short term rentals. Will need to be addressed by attorney, limit of occupancy, limiting number of permits, inspections for safety.
    b. New legislation: Will send summaries. Public water and definition of size of lot. Minimum dwelling unit size of 500 sq/ft. Site plat approved within 60 days. Cannot require more than one parking space, cannot eliminate single wide buildings. Duplexes allowed in all districts. Accessory dwellings permitted in all districts.
    c. Must look at ADA accessible for our documents and website.
  11. Old Business:
    a. Discussion on ordinance:
    b. 3-7 accessory buildings: Waterfront, navigable.
    c. 3-8 shipping containers: question if container needs to be on gravel
    d. 3-24 animals: County does not have in writing what number of pets were permissible
    e. 3-29 Fencing: height of fence: 4-6-6 commercial 4-8-8.
    f. 3-59 Private roads: non conforming: 5 or more county road standards. Change to7 or more will have to meet standard. Private road has to give clerk agreement information
    g. 4-9: setbacks: lot coverage width to length ratios. Doesn’t have to be listed but land division act. Side set backsremove percentages. Lot coverage, what counts, is it building or driveway/hard surface. Need to be clear. Use setbacks instead of percentage.
    h. 4-21: side set back abuts road 10 ft. will remove
    i. 4-29: Nsc lot minimum, remove acres. Will check sq/ft for acres
    j. 4-58: parks and playground not 40 acres
    k. 4-63: not filled in:
    l. 4-67: requirements: remove acre requirement
    m. 7-2: home occupations: 25%of attached structure.
    n. 7-35: trap shooting: what we have is good
    o. 7-65: solar panel: take out that they need building permits
    p. 8-2: ZBA meeting: do not meet 4 times. Must meet 1 time a year
    q. 9-6: solar compliance: needs to simplify
    r. 9-8: complete building …red one
    s. Data centers: required? to have own power source and water source. Yes
    t. Next month working on Master plan. May 13th will be plan copy review. Patrick will supply pizza
