SUPERVISOR’S CORNER

SUPERVISOR’S CORNER

Well, we have an update to the library move schedule. I was in contact with the Iosco-Arenac District Library(IADL) to get a status of their efforts to relocate the Merit data services that are used for all libraries from the current location to the Plaza, their new location. They found that Merit actually leases fiber from Spectrum in this area because they do not own any fiber in the Hale or Whittemore area. Spectrum had just contacted them and informed Merit that they could not get to the fiber install here for 6 to 9 months. Merit is the only service that the libraries can use for their internet service due to their E-rate discount through the federal programs. So the move has been delayed until the spring. I will keep you informed as additional information is received.
On another topic, the county recycling program is up and running at all three facilities in the county. The last containers were received and placed at the Oscoda School facility 2 weeks ago. We now have facilities in Oscoda, Whittemore at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot on East Sherman Road in Whittemore and at the ice arena in Tawas City off of M55. These are unmanned and product can be dropped at anytime. They are monitored and recorded. In addition this program provides electronic recycling events and hazardous household waste recycling events. Two events each were held this past summer and fall and two more each are planned for next year also.
We have a holiday parade and Santa visit scheduled for Saturday, December 13 starting at +/-5pm depending on the light. If you are interested in participating in the parade, line-up is at 4:30 at the Lutheran Church and a trophy will be awarded for the best light decoration courtesy of Michigan Mud Jam. There will also be activities for the whole family including cookie decorating and crafts and our Historical Commission will be providing food and refreshments. So stop out and visit.
If you are interested in helping to keep our downtown decorated, please contact Hale Garden Club , PO Box 174, Hale, MI 48739 or call Bev Mason at 989-305-8823. They are always looking for volunteers or if you just want to contribute, a donation is always appreciated. Wanting to find a way to get and stay in shape, consider membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA. So stop in and see Roma about a membership. We have family rates and business/group rates also. We would love to see you. When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum. They also have genealogical workshops, so stop and ask about the next event. As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me. I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
