SUPERVISOR’S CORNER

SUPERVISOR’S CORNER

Congratulations for another successful fair and Fourth of July celebration. Everyone enjoyed the festivities and no major catastrophes. So thanks to all the volunteers and workers that make these events successful.
The board has decided to move forward with the relocation of the library and the historical museum and offices. We are currently planning the move and will be starting with the meeting room. The carpet in the room has been fraying for a while and we are going to take this opportunity to replace it with a commercial grade material. We will also be painting the walls and soffit to better match the needs of the new facility. We have been in discussions with the IADL director and Cheryl in deciding on the fit and configuration of the new space. They are looking at different schemes and layouts to best fit their needs. Once all is said and done we will probably have some used bookcases and furniture as well as some other equipment that we can offer for sale in the plaza. We will send out a facebook post before we do, so keep watching. I anticipate this somewhere in early October.
We also have new automatic door openers being installed in most of our exterior doors around the township buildings. So you may see some door obstructions over the next few weeks. Please be observant and don’t interrupt the workers.
I had a meeting with Consumers Energy today just to touch base and catch up on any issues. They are still discussing the sale of the AuSable River hydro’s with potential buyers. They have not made any decisions yet as they are reviewing each for their potential to operate and maintain these facilities. If a decision is made to sell the facilities, the buyers still have to get approval from the hydro committee as well as FERC(Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). The hydro commission is made up of members from state and federal agencies such as USFS, EGLE, MDNR, USFW and others. So this is far from any action being taken or Consumers taking final action. The next step will hopefully come this fall with Consumers decision to either sell or decommission.
We also will be purchasing more house number yard signs for Pat to hand out in the building department. If you do not have a green and white house number sign in your yard or driveway please stop in and see Pat.
As we enter our second summer with a sheriff officer in our community during much of the week we will be using them to assist in our blight enforcement. If you have a blight condition at your residence you may receive a visit from the sheriff officer serving notices of violation. The best way to avoid a visit is to clean up your yards. Those in violation know who you are. Many are multiyear offenders and may finally be at the end of their grace period of non-compliance. As I have said in these postings before, blight is a community issue and it takes a community to fight it. I try as much as possible to avoid spending our tax dollars in court to force someone to do something they should be doing anyways such as cleaning their yard.
As usual, I can’t thank the Garden Club enough for the beautiful planters downtown and as always they are looking for volunteers to help. Anyone with or without a green thumb is welcome to volunteer. Any and all time is appreciated. Time or money will all help keep the flowers they plant and tend throughout the year looking beautiful. If you are interested contact Hale Garden Club , PO Box 174, Hale, MI 48739 or call Bev Mason at 989-305-8823. Wanting to find a way to get and stay in shape, consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA. So stop in and see Roma about a membership. We have family rates and business/group rates also. We would love to see you. When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum. They also have genealogical workshops, so stop and ask about the next event. As we are in summer, stop in to the library for their summer youth programs and check out the programs offered at the Lumbermen’s Monument starting every Tuesday in July and August.
As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me. I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
