SUPERVISORS CORNER

SUPERVISORS CORNER

As we enter the Holiday season, I want to wish all of you Happy Holiday, however you may celebrate it, and a safe travel wherever you may go.  One question that is asked frequently by our residents at this time of year is if the waste site is open on Christmas and New Years.  The answer is no, it will be closed on both Christmas and New Years Day, December 25 and January 1 respectively.  Normal operating business will resume on the next regular open business day which is the following Friday in both cases, December 27 and January 3 respectively.

Also in taking care of community business, up until recently, when a resident noticed a streetlight out or flickering they would call us to report it.  We would contact Consumers Energy and they would put it into their repair work order system and the light would be fixed over the next few weeks.  Consumers Energy has enhanced the process and now allows anyone to report an outage from their phone/tablet/computer.  All you have to do is go to:

 www.consumersenergy.com/outages-and-safety/outage-center/streetlight#Resident

and follow the instructions. Select the “Streetlight Outages Map” box and that will take you to a map of our community and show each streetlight as a blue dot.  You may have to scroll out to see where their map opened to, I have been taken to Oscoda a couple of times when I went to the site. Once you have the map showing our community, you click or select the light that you are reporting and an information box will open showing the light information and a “Report Outage” tab will be at the bottom of the box.  When you select this tab a menu will open on the right side of the screen asking for information about the light problem that you are reporting.  The only things that you have to fill out are the reason for the report(ie-light out, light flickering, etc,) which is choosing one of the options from the drop-down menu in the “What is wrong with the light” box and the contact information at the bottom of the menu.  If you don’t want to provide the contact information just put may name and the township phone and my email.  If they contact me I will know what it is about.  That’s all, once you submit the report the blue dot for the light you’re reporting on, changes to yellow and will remain that way until the light is repaired. As I have told many of you, we can not get around to all these lights at night to see which are having problems, so I depend on you to keep me informed.  Now you can report these yourself to make sure they get reported and can see when they have repaired them in the area.  Remember, these lights are paid by us, with your tax dollars, whether they are on or not and repairs do not cost us a dime.

Don’t forget to consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza.  You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA.  Whatever your need we probably have some form of activity to assist you. So stop in and see Roma about a membership.  We have family rates and business/group rates also.  We would love to see you.  When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum.  They have great displays of our community throughout history and how our residents lived long ago.  The members do a great job preserving and showcasing our heritage.  They also have genealogical workshops, and guest speakers so stop and ask about the next event. Also don’t forget our library over on M-65 at the Resource Center, call Cheryl at 989-728-4086 for information on upcoming events.  As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me.  I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
