SUPERVISORS CORNER

In case you have been living in a commune or have been cut off from the outside world, this is an election year and it is just around the corner.  Absentee ballots have been and are being sent as I write this article.  If you are on the permanent absentee voter list you should have received your ballot already. If you think you should have received one and do not get one please contact the clerk at our offices and they will sort it out.  They are very good at keeping these records and are trained and skilled at the recent changes in the voting genre.  If you have any questions about the election in general always feel free to contact the Clerk anytime.  I know that I for one can’t wait to get this over so that I can stop emptying my garbage weekly with all the ads that we receive.  The mail carriers will definitely need a break after this election.  I’ve always wondered when the elections are over and all the ad’s stop, what happens with all the available ad space? Questions to ponder while showering.

Another grand happening right now is the beautiful panaroma of color that exists in our area during the fall color extravaganza. For those of you not aware, Iosco County boasts two of the most scenic lookouts of anywhere that I have visited.  The first is only 5 minutes from downtown Hale on M-65.  Go north out of town, past the 5 mile curve by the Eagles club, past the Bear Store 1 mile and just past Rollways Rd on the left(north) side of M-65 is a park called Westgate Scenic Overlook.  During the fall colors you can see for miles over the AuSable  River basin and some of the most panoramic and beautiful displays of color you can find from the large deck built out over the river by the USFS.  The next is a little further down the road.  If you continue down M-65 another 3 miles you come to River Road on your right(south).  Turn down River Road and head for Oscoda.  Go past Iargo Springs, Canoers’ Memorial and Lumbermen’s Monument, all of which deserve their own outing, which will take you about 9.5 miles down River Road from M-65 and you will see a small sign from the Forest Service that says Foote Overlook on the left(north) side of River Road.  Turn on this paved road and drive back to the parking lot and walk out to the overlook and large sand dune that goes down to the AuSable and take in the view.  It is gorgeous.  This time of the year neither of these should  be missed.  The beauty in our own back yard.  Like I say, we are lucky, we get to live with this, but we love to share it.

Most of our projects are completing, the front entrance cover at our offices is complete and came out just wonderful, the pavilion was completed earlier this summer and our DPW has completed another section of the Mud Lake walkway replacement.  We are still working on the waste site gate and trying to get it scheduled with the new installer. We will keep you informed.

Don’t forget to consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza.  You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA.  Whatever your need we probably have some form of activity to assist you. So stop in and see Roma about a membership.  We have family rates and business/group rates also.  We would love to see you.  When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum.  They have great displays of our community throughout history and how our residents lived long ago.  The members do a great job preserving and showcasing our heritage.  They also have genealogical workshops, and guest speakers so stop and ask about the next event. Also don’t forget our library over on M-65 at the Resource Center, call Cheryl at 989-728-4086 for information on upcoming events.  As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me.  I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
