SUPERVISORS CORNER

SUPERVISORS CORNER

Well summer seems to be flying by. Here we are at late June already, what the heck happened to Memorial Day? It seems like it passed in a flash, it’s either that or I really am letting the age thing take hold(that’s what my daughter would say). In any event as the time passes this year it has a special significance. This, as we all know by now, is an election year. All local and federal positions are up for re-election. All of our positions are up and we are all re-running, all the county positions and federal officials are up also. The only ones not on the ballot are the governor and state representatives. With that come some new election changes that we passed a few years ago. Absentee voting is now available to all once you sign-up. If you have any questions just call Sue or Chris in our office and they will be happy to walk you through the process. With the general election in November, any of you that snowbird out of state need to make sure that Sue and Chris have your contact information, including your email and phone as well as your winter time address. The US postal service will not forward any election mail, including ballots. Absentee ballots for the primary in August will be sent out before the end of this month, so be on the lookout for them in the mail if you are an absentee registered voter. And remember to vote, all votes count and it is the only way that you can guarantee that you have a voice. Let it be heard and VOTE.
Next up, the gate at the transfer station is on site. We need some additional items before we can install it though. One thing is an additional exit gate. If someone pulls up and can’t get through the gate, for whatever reason, they need to get out without backing out and disrupting the others lined up behind them waiting to get in. Therefore, we need a second exit gate which is going in just north of the current entrance gate. The concrete barriers will be used to direct the individual to turn right onto a gravel road that will turn them right back out to Towerline without disrupting the residents behind them in line. Next we have to set-up the access control system to allow only individuals with approved cards to activate the gate. The cards have already been programmed into the database and are in the mail to you with your summer tax bill. The cards can only be used with the gate, they do not replace the colored paper cards you received in December. We will have a number of notifications out when we plan to start using the gate so you won’t get blindsided and we will still let you in even if you just have the paper card. We know that this is a big change and there will be some hick-ups as we implement them but bear with us and we will get through it with the least amount of stress as possible.
As many of you have commented, we have some structural changes on the plaza and the resource center. A new entrance canopy at the plaza and a new pavilion at the resource center are our latest additions. We overlaid the plaza entrance drive and seal coated both the plaza and resource center parking and drives. We are also working on a township facebook page that will feature local events and activities in the county to provide a choice of events and functions to keep you busy throughout our surrounding area. So stay tuned for these and remember don’t forget to vote.
In the meantime, consider a membership at the Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza. You can come and enjoy pickleball at any time, yoga, cardio drumming, fitness training, walking or some more intense TOWANDA. Whatever your need we probably have some form of activity to assist you. So stop in and see Roma about a membership. We have family rates and business/group rates also. We would love to see you. When you’re here stop in on Tuesdays and Thursdays to the Plainfield Township Historical Museum. They have great displays of our community throughout history and how our residents lived long ago. The members do a great job preserving and showcasing our heritage. They also have genealogical workshops, and guest speakers so stop and ask about the next event. Also don’t forget our library over on M-65 at the Resource Center. We have new hours for the summer, we are open Monday 9-4, closed Tuesday, open Wednesday and Thursday 9-4, closed Friday, open Saturday 9-4, closed Sunday. Call Cheryl at 989-728 -4086 for information on upcoming events.
As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me. I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
