SUPERVISORS CORNER

Well another great 4th of July celebration is in the books.  The parade was fantastic, the weather was wonderful and the fireworks were again spectacular.  Thanks to all that took part and helped make this day as great as it was.

Any of you that have read my Corner know that frequently I “talk up” our community about how supportive and close-knit we are.  Never have I seen this more apparent than at the recent dinner for Frankie Chrivia.  On June 24th at the Legion Hall in Hale our community came together by the hundreds to show their support for Frankie and his family in their battle against brain cancer.  The giving, the caring, the support, the just plain love that existed in that hall during that dinner was visible and tangible.  The family knows that they are far from alone in this battle and thank each and every person that has helped them along the way during this war they are waging.

Now on to more mundane things.  Zoning and building permits.  Zoning permits are required for any structure that you bring onto your property, whether you build it or have it delivered, a zoning permit is required.  If you fail to get a zoning permit prior to having a structure brought or built on your property you are liable for a fine and any costs that may be required if you need to relocate the structure due to a zoning violation.  It is a lousy $20 and takes 5 minutes to get right in our offices.  Building permits are required for any structure over 200 square feet.  All of this information, including our Zoning Ordinance and permit applications is available on our website www.plainfieldtwpmi.com.

Apparently many are not aware of the parks available in our community based on comments about this listing.  We will work on getting a brochure around that maps these parks and their amenities. We have an extensive list of facilities for all types of uses.  Our Long Lake Park off Kokosing Rd has a dual boat launch as well as a swimming beach with restrooms and parking; our south Loon Lake Park at the end of Putnam Rd has an overlook onto Loon Lake as well as a picnic area and a beach at the bottom of the steps, which are a good climb; our north Loon Lake Park has a boat launch along with an 800’ boardwalk out in Mud Lake, rest rooms, a pavilion, a hand pitcher pump for fresh water, picnic areas, an overlook and over a mile of bike path through the woods ending up at Kokosing Rd; we have swimming beach at Chain Lake Park off of Chain Lake Dr; a picnic area, beach and shoreline fishing at Plainfield Park on West Londo Lake: plus the Plainfield Park next to the firehall with a playground, childrens play area, a merry-go-round, swings, a tennis court/pickle ball court, ball diamond with dugouts,  picnic tables, restrooms and parking, all within walking distance from downtown and ice cream.  So take a local break and enjoy our local parks, they are our gems and they are in our own backyards.

The new Michigan State Police Hale Detachment is not a manned office.  You may not be allowed in without an appointment.  If you need immediate assistance call 911 and they will direct you or for an appointment call the West Branch MSP desk at (989) 345-0956.

The waste site is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM through 4 PM and Sunday from 9 AM through 2 PM.  We are open on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

Our Garden Club has begun their season of work. They are always looking for anyone interested in assisting them in caring for our planters in the downtown. The person to call is Kim Kocher(989-899-1066) or Bev Mason(989-305-8823) Again I want to thank these hard working volunteers for what they give to keep our community looking beautiful.

As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me.  I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
