SUPERVISORS CORNER

I want to thank all of our residents that showed their continued support for our community and our phenomenal volunteers in both our fire department and medical first responders in again passing our renewal millages for both services.  They both passed with very wide margins which shows the large support base for these programs.  With this election result we will intensify our efforts to continue to provide the best public safety programs available with the best trained and equipped personnel.  We will continue to strive for continuing education training to fit into these dedicated, volunteer’s schedules and look at providing family, friendly functions and programs to minimize the impact that this volunteer effort has on their families.

I am going to switch gears for a minute and talk about a subject that we probably never would have imagined that we would be discussing.  Last week Consumers Power issued a press release that laid out several meetings that they have scheduled over the next two months to gather input from the residents that live in the areas that are impacted by their old hydro dams.  In our area that covers just about every county between Grayling and Oscoda.  The purpose of the input gathering is to help them determine the fate of these hydro plants.  These plants have lived way beyond their original design life of 50 years.  In fact some are in excess of 100 years old.  In light of the catastrophic dam failures last year and their impact on the surrounding communities, Consumers faces some tough decisions moving forward.  With their licenses coming up for renewal in about 6 years, a process that takes almost 3 years to complete, they need to know if these facilities are still a viable/reliable source of power.  Their ultimate decision on the fate of these plants will impact our entire community for the future.  Be sure to attend or at least read about these discussions that will impact our futures forever.

We are working on getting the MSP detachment post ready to go in the Plaza.  The changes and modifications are mostly complete on our end as we let the DTMB from the state come in and build out their final office structure. We anticipate a November/December move -in date and we’ll keep you posted as the time draws near.

The waste site is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM through 4 PM and Sunday from 9 AM through 2 PM.  We are open on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

Anyone interested in assisting our Garden Club this Summer in tending the planters downtown, please contact Linda or Janet at the Hale Hardware.  They are always looking for additional help.

As always if you ever have any questions, comments or concerns regarding our community please contact me.  I am in the office Monday – Friday 7:30 – 4:00 at 989-728-2811 or my cell at 989-984-7073 or by email supervisor@plainfieldtwpmi.com.
