Voting by Mail Rules for voting in Michigan have changed this year. It is now possible for everyone to vote in elections by mail. Township and City Clerks will accept absent voter ballot applications that specify the voter wishes to be added to the “permanent absent voter application list”. Check the box next to “Automatically send me an application for I want to vote absentee in all future elections. Automatically send me an application for every election.” on the current MI Absent Voter Ballot Application form to receive a mail ballot in every election.
You can obtain the application form from your township or city clerk, or on the Internet at https://www.michigan.gov/documents/AbsentVoterBallot_105377_7.pdf . Some clerks will mail you a form if you request one by phone. The Iosco County Clerk posts a list of phone numbers and addresses for all clerks at https://iosco.net/departments/clerk2/voting-information .
Voting by mail makes sense in these trying times of the COVID-19 virus. Many states are considering a total vote by mail system now. Michigan has new voting rules that allow individual voters this option already. Please vote in the State Primary Election on August 4 and the General Election on November 3. Your completed absent voter ballot must be received by your clerk before 8:00 PM on election days.
